If this image gives you any idea of the direction Dimension Films is going with it’s new acquisition, it’s a freakishly good one. What you are looking at is a piece of concept art, courtesy of /Film, for The Home, written by Kristoffer Aaron Morgan and Eric Vespe. The Home, which will also be directed by Morgan, tells the story of a fireman, who after receiving devastating injuries during a rescue, is sent to a secluded nursing home to recuperate. Many of the elderly occupants at ‘the home’ seem to experience delusions, but soon the fireman discovers the phantasms are all too real.
The film is set to star Brian Cox (The Bourne Identity), Ed Asner (Up), Cloris Leachman (Young Frankenstein), Louis Gossett, Jr. (Iron Eagle), and Louise Fletcher (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) as old people.Â

One may wonder why this younger character would ever end up in a nursing home, thereby becoming the filter of film events for the audience; but it is not unheard of for younger folk who are not in critical condition but require full care and assistance to be put in a home, since these have 24 hour staff. After seeing the nursing home used similarly in the horror comedy Bubba Ho-tep, I'm confident that this rather unique setting will provide a fitting atmosphere for a horror film in its truest form.
Having spent many Sunday afternoons visiting a sick grandmother, I am familiar with how sad and unsettling the nursing home can be; take a trip to the dementia unit in any one of these institutions, and you'll find a ground as rich with resources for a horror movie as the more typical psychiatric ward that so many films have featured. Check out one more conceptual image from The Home on its IMDb page, and let us know if this will make your list of 2011 must-sees!
