Matthew Vaughn, director of X-Men: First Class, has decided not to direct the sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past. As of now, there’s no word on why Vaughn left the director’s chair. io9 notes that Vaughn was integral to developing this sequel, which makes his exit peculiar. According to Deadline, Vaughn briefly bowed out of directing X-Men: First Class before changing his mind. Could it happen again?
To replace Vaughn, Fox has considered bringing Bryan Singer back to the X-Men. If Singer accepts, he and Vaughn would switch producer and director roles. Singer is just one of the names on Fox’s short list of replacements, but there’s no info on other potential directors.
Fox is still aiming at a July 18th, 2014 release date for X-Men: Days of Future Past, so expect some more news on this in the next few weeks.
