Disney apparently thinks we aren’t suffering enough during this self isolation period, so it has announced that it will celebrate this year’s Star Wars Day (May 4th) with an early release of The Rise of Skywalker on Disney+. Coming to the service two months ahead of its planned launch, we can now all suffer in the shoddy plotting and sloppy pacing together from the comfort of our homes.
The early release is likely down to Rise of Skywalker having topped the Blu-Ray sales charts for the past month. As with basically every other hated Star Wars film, fans just can’t keep themselves from watching and debating the movies that supposedly ruined their childhoods. I won’t go so far as to say that, but I do think this saga closer was one of the weakest films in the series.
If the main entries aren’t your thing, you’ll be happy to hear that Disney is also launching the documentary series Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian on the same day. A dive into how the popular show was made, it’ll premiere alongside the final episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars to round off the May 4th celebration. That’s certainly a much better treat than the main film.
