Disney commits to July release for Mulan, November for Black Widow

After delaying basically everything in production, Disney is now committing to a July 24, 2020 release date for Mulan and November 6, 2020 release for Black Widow. For those keeping track, Widow is now occupying the original date for The Eternals, which has been shifted to February 21, 2021 and has set off a chain reaction of delayed Marvel films.

Thor: Love and Thunder is on for February 18, 2021, Shang-Chi is now May 7, 2021, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is November 5, 2021, Black Panther 2 is still on for May 6, 2022, and Captain Marvel 2 is primed for July 8, 2022. It looks like the meticulous planning of Marvel has managed to account for all of these delays (sorry, Matt).

The biggest shocker here is that Artemis Fowl is now skipping its theatrical release entirely and heading to Disney+. Disney also announced that Pixar’s Soul will remain unaffected for now. It will likely be the first film Disney releases for the summer season. Finally, Jungle Cruise has been delayed a full year to July 30, 2021, after having its original date taken by Mulan.

It’s a lot to keep up with, but I can’t help but feel that Disney is being overly optimistic here. I do really hope that this coronavirus pandemic is under control by the summer, but I’m not so sure. Reports paint a grim picture for the US and things don’t seem to be getting better. Here’s to hoping I’m wrong.
