Disney is looking to recapture the spooky magic of 1993’s Hocus Pocus with a brand new entry for Disney+. The company announced plans, today, to take another crack at the whip for a film that has grown a significant cult following over the last 20+ years. Being produced through Walt Disney movie studios, this new iteration will be scribed by Jen D’Angelo (known for her work on Happy Together and Workaholics). Plans haven’t been revealed if this will be a true sequel or some kind of soft reboot/remake.
This latest stab comes just two years after the Disney Channel attempted to develop a Hocus Pocus TV film. While that feature failed to get off the ground, this new one is more than likely going to get made. Disney+ is basically replacing the “Direct-To-Video” market with original content, so this will be a pretty low-stakes way to test the waters for dormant IPs.
Now we just need to know if original stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are all attached. It wouldn’t be Hocus Pocus without them!
