With the imminent arrival of Disney+, some memorable film franchises are now getting the reboot treatment, and they are some you wouldn’t expect. Announced today during Disney’s Q3 call with Bob Iger (CEO of Disney), Home Alone, Night at the Museum and Diary of a Wimpy Kid are going to get re-made the Disney way. He describes they will be “reimagined” for a new generation – oh boy!
Whenever I hear that I always think “why”? If something was good the first time around, why re-do it? If kids today want to watch the originals they can just hop on Netflix, Hulu, etc. They don’t need a reboot. Will kids today even want to watch these movies in a world filled with superhero and action films? I kind of doubt it.
Although he dropped the names of those franchises, I suspect more are on the way as we inch closer to Disney+’s release. Don’t forget that D23 Expo 2019 is coming up soon, so you can be sure more interesting news is sure to follow.
