Yeah. You read that right. Disney is currently searching for a screenwriter to adapt the Disneyland/Disney World ride Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Note that they aren’t calling it looking to remake their adaptation of The Wind in the Willows that the ride is based on, nor are they saying they’re re-adapting the original book. This is a film adaptation…of a theme park ride…of a film adaptation. I feel like, at some point in this movie, Charlie Kaufmann’s going to show up and blow his brains out, the splatter from which will spell out, “Go f**k yourself.” Pete Candeland is being tapped to direct the film. He’s apparently done music videos for The Gorillaz and the trippy CG opening to Beatles Rock Band.
I’ve got another grand idea. There’s a bunch more dark rides at Disneyland they could adapt into feature films. My favorite is always Peter Pan’s Flight. They should totally make THAT into a movie! Or Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin! Or Alice in Wonderland! Or Snow White’s Scary Adventures! DO YOU GET IT THESE ARE ALL RIDES ADAPTED FROM MOVIES.
Between this and hearing that Glee is a show that “defined a generation,” I may just off myself after seeing Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus. There’s clearly nothing left to look forward to in life.
