You might be aware that I kind of like Disney movies. From this, you can probably gather what an embarrassingly large portion of my iTunes includes. D23 was this past weekend and was full of a ton of other nerds with just as many Disney songs as I have, but a lucky selection of those nerds got to see the real deal: Paige O’Hara (Belle of Beauty and the Beast), Jodi Benson (Ariel of The Little Mermaid), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana of The Princess and the Frog), and Lea Salonga (Mulan of Mulan and Jasmine of Aladdin) singing live songs as their respective princesses. That’s right: live-action princess singing. If I were able to make that panel, I think I would have exploded.
The sound quality is pretty spotty, but it’s still really cool to watch these women sing. And if you think the header video is cool, check out the ones after the jump. They sing solos in character and it is awesome.
[Videogum, via YBMW; thanks, Elyse!]I feel a little bad for admitting this, but I really am not a fan of Paige O’Hara’s performance here. Her voice is really rough and she does not have the best stage presence. Jodi Benson’s notes aren’t always spot-on, but she’s perfectly in character and watching her is fantastic. Anika Noni Rose is wonderful, but Lea Salonga is absolutely phenomenal. I could watch her for hours. In fact, I think I might do that now.
