Today, it was made public that the 2017 reboot of the hit show DuckTales has been canceled and will end its run in 2021. It was fun while it lasted but as the saying goes, “all good things must come to an end.” Season Three will indeed be the last one as according to showrunners Matt Youngberg and Francisco Angones, they have known for some time that DuckTales would not be getting a Season Four. The duo didn’t go public earlier likely because of NDAs with Disney.
Earlier this week, the hashtag #RenewDuckTales2017 was floating around on Twitter and had fans really hoping for good news. Disney then later shared the following statement with Comicbook.com confirming the sad fate of our favorite ducks.
The talented creative team, led by Matt Youngberg and Francisco Angones, have delivered exceptional storytelling with uniquely reimagined characters for three seasons of 75 episodes and more than 15 shorts. While physical production has wrapped, ‘DuckTales’ continues to be available on Disney Channels and Disney+ around the world and fans will get an epic season finale in 2021.
When I first learned back in 2017 that a childhood classic of mine was coming back, I was thrilled. That iconic theme song, the globe-trotting adventures: it was all returning in a new way and did not disappoint at all. I want to thank Youngberg and Angones and the entire DuckTales team for giving us back some great nostalgia. The show may be finished but it’s great we can still watch it once it ends.
Now, all we can do is wait for that “epic” finale.
