DOC NYC kicks off this Thursday, November 10th and runs until November 17th. DOC NYC is the largest documentary and non-fiction film festival in the United States. More than 250 events and films are scheduled for the next week, with more than 300 filmmakers and special guests in attendance.
Screenings for DOC NYC will be held at the IFC Center, the SVA Theater, and Cinepolis Chelsea. The opening night film is Matt Tyrnauer’s Citizen Jane: Battle for the City, and the closing night film is John Scheinfeld’s Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary.
Over the next week or so, Flixist will be looking at the Short List programming at DOC NYC. These are some of the most critically acclaimed documentaries of the year that are generating award buzz. We’ve already reviewed a few Short List movies this year, which played at The New York Film Festival (Ava DuVernay’s 13TH and Gianfranco Rosi’s Fire at Sea).
