The BBC isn’t denying rumor that Jodie Whittaker is leaving Doctor Who

Doctor Who

Take this next story with a grain of salt, but according to UK’s The Daily Mirror, Doctor Who is about to lose its lastest doctor. In a report from the tabloid (which should give you a better idea of how credible this is), it claims that Whittaker will be stepping into the Tardis at the end of season 13, never to return again.

While I normally wouldn’t report on such a blatant rumor, there are some factors that are lending credence to these recent claims. The biggest one is that the BBC isn’t denying the story. “We won’t be commenting on any speculation around Jodie’s future on the show,” a spokesperson for the network said. There’s also the fact that each previous doctor lasted only three seasons on the series, of which Whittaker is fast approaching the end of her third year.

According to an unnamed source close to The Daily Mirror, “It’s all very hush-hush but it is known on set that Jodie is leaving and they are gearing up for a regeneration. Her departure is top secret but at some point over the coming months, the arrival of the 14th Doctor will need to be filmed.” That’s fairly vague, but it does follow with previous seasons and transitions.

I’m not sure if this is good or bad news for series fans, but I guess all good things must come to an end. I’d check social media for reactions, but it’s filled with the typical hyperbole about how women ruin media and such. Gotta love the internet…
