Pick your movie about a young woman overeager to head to some spooky-ass place for an extended period of time who then realizes that said place is quite spooky indeed, but then it’s too late, and she becomes trapped in whatever spooky shenanigans its current owners/past inhabitants have in store for her, and you have a good idea of what Don’t Leave Home looks to be. It also happens to look like a pretty good version of this.
In Don’t Leave Home, a sculpture who works on pieces concerning Irish urban legends is contacted by a reclusive priest to make a sculpture specifically for him. He evidently painted a portrait of a girl at one point, and the girl disappeared the next day along with her image on the painting. Already knowing this, the sculpture still trundles off into the Irish countryside with this dude, where frights will then occur.
This Shudder-exclusive has nice photography and an atmosphere that gives that classic ghost story feeling. Hopefully, it’ll have a bit more substance and less of person-turning-around-and-gasping-in-dark-hallways.
We’ll find out soon enough, as the film is due to release on January 31.
