When I saw the title Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot, I was imagining a home break-in movie with someone getting their legs broken at the onset and the rest of the movie being based on some guy with broken legs trying to get out of his house, but he’s got broken legs and won’t get far on foot. That was my idea, but the actual movie is much lighter on the surface despite dealing with a paralyzed recovering alcoholic.
Based on the real-life story of John Callahan, a cartoonist who became a quadriplegic due to a drunk driving accident at a young age, Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot tells the story of Callahan’s attempts at recovery and the bumps and turns that all entails. Callahan will be played by Joaquin Phoenix who is always wonderful at sliding into these character study roles, this also looks to be Jonah Hill’s return to the realm of drama after a few years of wandering around in the comedy world once again. Gus Van Sant will direct and the film will be distributed by Amazon Studios who looks to be making a real go at this film distribution thing, although I guess when you’re the richest man in the world you can do whatever you want.
Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot will be released in theaters on May 11th, 2018.
