It’s always good to hear animation news outside of Pixar’s realm of existence. Thankfully this news has nothing to do with the deadly shadows suspense movie we got a glimpse of earlier this week. Today DreamWorks Animation announced that they’re working on a 2013 film that will combine hand drawn animations with CGI similar to what we’ve seen from them in The Prince of Egypt and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
Directed by Mark Dindal (Chicken Little, The Emperor’s New Groove) Me and My Shadow tells the story of Shadow Stan who longs for a lively life, yet is stuck to an incredibly boring and lethargic human. Shadows adhere to rules similar to those that toys in Toy Story do, and refuse to ever be seen for what they really are, but one day Shadow Stan gets fed up and takes control of his master’s relationship.
DreamWorks boaststhat half of the staff working on this project have 2D animation backgrounds, and even reveal that the shadow and his world will receive 2D animations whereas the human and his world will have 3D animations. I’m incredibly eager to see how this looks when it’s actually played…
