By Rumor had it for some time that the Farrelly brothers were going to return to their roots and make a Dumb and Dumber sequel, with both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels starring as the dynamically dumb duo once again. Things came to a halt, however, a couple of months ago when Carrey walked away citing lack of studio interest in the project. Well, sweet children, I come to assuage your fears because it looks like everything may wind up peachy keen.
Jeff Daniels, currently starring in The Newsroom has reportedly spoken on everyone’s behalf saying “Jim wants to do it, I want to do it, the Farrellys want to do it.” That cat is practically in the bag! Okay, well not really, but the script is apparently close to being finished and filming could start early next year. The real question here is should anyone really care? The Farrelly’s haven’t released a good movie in several years and the Dumb and Dumber prequel, if memory serves me correctly, wasn’t actually funny, so this may just be a case of film makers trying to return to something safe to get out of their tail-spin.
I’m willing to give them a chance, if only because Carrey and Daniels are willing to participate, but if I’m burned one more time by the Farrelly’s I may just have to accept that they’re all out of the funny and go home and watch Me Myself and Irene to comfort myself.
