Dune gets one last delay to late October 2021

Dune

Warner Bros. has announced that the hotly anticipated Dune from acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve has received one final delay ahead of its October 2021 release date. Previously scheduled for October 1 (after having received a year delay due to COVID-19), the Timothée Chalamet starring film will now open on October 22, 2021. You could also ignore all of this nonsense and simply watch the film on HBO Max.

This latest setback wasn’t done for shooting or editing purposes, but merely to give Dune a better shot at the box office. It also comes with a number of other WB properties getting delayed, including Cry Macho (now set for September 17, 2021), and The Many Saints of Newark (which will premiere on October 1, 2021). Interestingly, there was no mention of whether or not The Matrix 4 had been delayed…or if it even has a name yet.

In all honesty, a delay for Dune isn’t the worst thing in the world. With COVID-19 vaccinations rolling out at a decent click, a few extra weeks may ensure that more people can see this at an actual theater. The home theater experience can be glorious if you invest enough money, but there will always be something special about a big screen. I’d still err on the side of caution, however, so don’t go if you don’t feel safe yet.
