Earlier today, a logo for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune leaked online and it wasn’t a pretty sight. Looking like the mad scrambling of a freshman that forgot to do his homework the night before, the ultra-minimalist aesthetic is honestly ugly as hell. I also can’t help but read DUNC here. That sorry excuse for an E does not look like an actual letter.
The logo comes from a convention in France where Dune was being featured. Not meant for public eyes just yet, some fans got crafty with their photos and uploaded an early look. I really hope this isn’t a final design because it doesn’t instill confidence with the project. I completely understand that the studio is going for a similar theme between letters. Everything looks the same and points in cardinal directions, but seriously? This is what passes for a big-budget logo in 2020?
It’s been pretty hard to find the logo in the hours since its leak. Warner Bros. and Lionsgate have been cracking down on any postings of the logo. Fans have taken to recreating the design, but a four-year-old could honestly make this. It’s just a U flipped in each direction! C’mon!
I know I shouldn’t get so worked up about a silly logo, but Villeneuve deserves better than this.
