E.T. writer hired for Roald Dahl’s The BFG adaption

Melissa Mathison, the writer behind 1980s classic E.T., his been tapped by Dreamworks to adapt Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book, The BFG. The BFG tells the story of a young girl named Sophie, who meets a monstrous giant. Though the giant is scary at first, he turns out to be a kind-hearted giant – BFG is short for “Big Friendly Giant” – who is ostracized from the other giants because he doesn’t want to eat human boys and girls. Adventures ensue.

As of yet, the adaption looks to be in live action because the adaption is under Dreamworks and not Dreamworks Animation. I remember reading this book as a child, and I think it has some pretty good potential as a movie!
