Shaun Of The Dead director Edgar Wright has been attached to an Ant-Man movie for Marvel for well over five years now, with the movie reportedly trapped in development hell over scripting issues. However, an image – used as the header for this post – recently released over Wright’s twitter account suggests the movie could be getting back on track, a turn of events perhaps not unrelated to Avengers setting a new box-office record on its US opening weekend.
Ant-Man was one of the founding members of the comic book Avengers team, and with Marvel stating that they plan to bring in new heroes with each new Avengers movie, the question inevitably arises as to whether Wright’s movie will be setting up future inclusion for the character. Wright has previously said his movie will neither be a spoof or comedy, so the possibility exists for Henry Pym and/or Scott Lang (rumours have claimed both iterations of the hero will be included) to occupy the same cinematic universe as Tony Stark. An Ant-Man reference was also originally scripted in Thor, with Pym cited as an email colleague of Dr. Selvig’s with prior experience of SHIELD, though it was removed in the final cut. Might the Earth be getting its tiniest hero in the foreseeable future?
