With Daniel Radcliffe having achieved a bona fide hit with The Woman In Black, Emma Watson will be following up roles in My Week With Marilyn and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower with Sofia Coppola’s next project, The Bling Ring. The film will tell the true story of a gang of young thieves who targeted the rich and famous and Lindsey Lohan between October 2008 and August 2009, emerging with $3m worth of swag.
We appreciate Miss Watson’s talents here at Flixist and while Sofia Coppola’s last movie wasn’t very good at all, this story has oodles of potential as a younger, punkier Bonnie And Clyde, accompanied by one of Coppola’s funky soundtracks. The gang’s targets included Orlando Bloom and Paris Hilton, so even if the real people refuse to cameo, a few planks of wood should do the job just as well. Coppola, who will write, produce and direct, has a good record with drawing strong performances from young actresses – discovering Scarlett Johansson and Elle Fanning – and Watson has so far proven a better model than actress, so hopefully she will be next to flourish under the director’s guidance.
