Before Rian’s Johnson was space hopping in a galaxy far, far away, he was producing some of the most interesting original movies around. Brick, his first movie, was a neo-noir crime mystery and Looper was one of his more big-budget successes before moving onto bigger things. He seems to be going back to his roots with this newest effort.
Knives Out is a mystery involving the murder of the crime novelist patriarch of the Thrombey family (Christopher Plummer). Everyone’s a suspect and the movie guarantees to be a twisting and turning affair in the vein of an Agatha Christie novel. For a movie called Knives Out, there is a silly amount of knives available for whoever the murderer is. Add in a dash of red herrings and family intrigue and you’ve got a recipe for an old school whodunnit. The all-star cast of Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon, and Ana de Armas all seem to be having fun with the material. If Daniel Craig’s accent and Chris Evan hamming it up are any indications then this movie should be a lot of fun.
Knives Out will grace theaters on November 27, 2019
