With the excellent Jane Levy having secured the lead role in Fede Alvarez’s remake of Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead, two new actresses have now been added to the cast roster: Jessica Lucas, best known for her recurring role on TV’s Melrose Place and horror movies like Cloverfield and The Covenant, and Elizabeth Blackmore, a fixture of Raimi’s fantasy TV series, Legend Of The Seeker, and once of Home And Away, the Aussie soap that isn’t Neighbours.
Lucas will play best friend to Jane Levy’s Mia, while Blackmore will be the fiancée of Mia’s brother, all part of the small group who go to a cabin in the woods, find the Book Of The Dead (aka Necronomicon) and unleash all manner of demonic unpleasantness. If you somehow didn’t know that already, watch Sam Raimi’s original immediately, followed by its two also fantastic sequels. Done that? Perfect. You will now also be aware of what a pointless exercise this remake is, and that’s from someone who is a fan of both star Jane Levy (Suburgatory is turning into this year’s best new comedy) and writer Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult).
