By Commercials director Adam Berg will be directing a remake of David Cronenberg’s classic Videodrome, a story about a skeezy television producer descending into a world of madness and hallucinations as television destroys his mind. Producing, as well as writing the script, is Ehren Kruger, writer of the last two Transformers movies. The plan is, “to modernize the concept, infusing it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller.” David Cronenberg, when reached for comment, began running towards Universal Studios while shouting, “I’M GOING TO BLOW THEIR F**KING HEADS UP” and wielding a gun he removed from his stomach vagina.
I’m sorry, I keep re-reading the whole “large-scale sci-fi action thriller” part and vomiting uncontrollably. This is a ludicrously terrible idea that simultaneously misses the entire point of the original Videodrome while actually becoming the evil Videodrome was commenting on.
Eww. Just…eww. This is exactly what’s wrong with Hollywood these days. Every single piece of it.
