I don’t know what happened, but over the last few years, cults have fascinated me. There’s something about the mindset of the cult member and the frightening power of a cult leader over his or her flock that’s just an intriguing dynamic. That’s probably why the first 12 minutes of Sound of My Voice was so compelling to me. Here’s a synopsis:
Peter (Christopher Denham) and Lorna (Nicole Vicius), a couple and documentary filmmaking team, infiltrate a mysterious group led by an enigmatic young woman named Maggie (Brit Marling). Intent on exposing her as a charlatan and freeing the followers from her grip, Peter and Lorna start to question their objective and each other as they unravel the secrets of Maggie’s underworld.
Since it autoplays when opened and contains partial nudity, I’ve included the 12-minute clip of Sound of My Voice after the cut. What’s interesting are the little clickable moments in the clip which helps give an insight into the strange beliefs and practices of the cult. In the gallery, you can look at two posters for the film.
