I’d developed a taste for drug stories growing up, and Pablo Escobar was the subject of a majority of them. A Columbian cocaine juggernaut in the 80s-90s (who most likely inspired the “Columbian drug lord” trope in films today), he was renowned for being a major pillar in his community. Oddly enough as he killed folks, he still gained a “robin Hood” like persona by helping out needy members of his town.
That’s why I’m interested in Escobar: Paradise Lost. Starring Benecio Del Toro as the kingpin, and Josh Hutcherson as a kid who marries into his family, the film looks to be a nice look into a fictionalized version of his story. I can’t wait to see the rest. Escobar: Paradise Lost hits iTunes December 13th with a run through theaters next January,
