I’ve been going back and forth with Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot each time we get a new look at the film. On the one hand, it’s a new Ghostbusters so it’ll at least be entertaining (and coupled with the fact they’re a group of women bumps that up an extra notch). On the other, either this trailer has a bad cut or the jokes aren’t funny. For some reason, the whole package doesn’t quite click yet.
Everything looks great on the surface. The ghosts look good, the cast is great (and styled well), and the new proton pack effects and Ecto-1 are pretty eye catching. Yet, that last gag wasn’t very good at all, was it? Also, why is it marred with the same character beats as the original? Why is Leslie Jones’ Patty the only one without a higher education? Is it because Ernie Hudson’s character had the same story? It’s a reboot, but that doesn’t mean it has to copy everything.
Ghostbusters busts into theaters July 15th.
