Orion Pictures has just dropped the first trailer for the upcoming Gretel & Hansel, and I’m pretty shocked at just how good it looks. It’s pretty much a nonstop barrage of eerily gorgeous horror imagery that leaves me wanting nothing but to see more. The witch’s craggy grin, the red smoke, the eye looking through the weird pyramid thing, the room of mirrors, the hair regurgitation, the always-creepy old timey poor people–this has everything! It even gives that chilling art house, slow burn feel of ever rising weirdness threatening to boil over at any second that’s reminiscent of The Witch.
Speaking of Robert Eggers, I really want Willem Dafoe to play the witch in this (or any movie). Every time I see this witch’s face I think Dafoe, and I’ll never be able to get it out of my head until it’s made real. Please Hollywood, do me this one favor and cast Willem Dafoe as a witch. Maybe we need to start a petition or something. I don’t know.
Gretel & Hansel is directed by Oz Perkins of The Blackcoat’s Daughter and is set to release January 31, 2020.
