Now that Xerxes 300: Battle of Artemesia 299 300: Rise of an Empire is set to release this August, it’s about time that we get our first look and plot details of the not quite sequel to 2006’s blockbuster man meat parade, 300.
300: Rise of an Empire works concurrently with 300 and features Themistokles and his troops fighting the Persian army at the sea (which means BOATS). According to director Noam Murro, ROAE has many different battles across different locations with the few v. many motif remaining intact. Artemesia, Xerxes’s second in command, (Eva Green) is the big bad this time as she wants revenge against the Greeks who killed her family. As for her character, here’s what Murro had to…um…say:
She’s got sex appeal, she’s ruthless and conniving. All the things that kill men. And she has a sword. I wouldn’t mess with her
Sure okay. Zack Snyder co-wrote the screenplay and made sure 299 was different than 300. As in, he made the characters more thought provoking and less willing to fight. Anyone excited for Rise of an Empire? I’m not. 300 was a lightning in a bottle situation and no one really understood why it blew up so well. 299 is trying to take a shot at it, but it looks too much like 300 or even Immortals for that matter. I mean, look at the first image! It’s so glossy.
