We haven’t done much reporting on Parkland because there hasn’t been much to report on. The film has been pretty quiet, but with the release of a few pictures and a new poster our interest has been piqued. The movie takes place in the Parkland hospital, where JFK, Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby all died, directly after Kennedy’s assassination. Seems like a good bit of historical drama, and with a release coming later this year along with a showing at the Venice Film Festival it’s probably gunning for some Oscar love.
Giving it a leg up in that department is the cast, which includes (deep breath) Paul Giamatti, Zac Efron, Billy Bob Thornton, Marcia Gay Harden, Jacki Weaver, James Badge Dale, Jackie Earle Haley, Ron Livingston, Colin Hanks, Tom Welling, Jeremy Strong, and David Harbour. The biggest possible weakness for the movie is that it is director Peter Landesman’s first attempt at directing film. Hopefully with such a strong cast he won’t blow it since the film’s plot actually seems like a unique take on a subject that’s been done to death.
