A Latin flavored Paranormal Activity spin off has been in the works for some time now, and every time more news of it broke, we at Flixist made fun guessing how many stereotypes were going to be exploited in the final product. Now we finally have our answer thanks to the first trailer for Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.
Thankfully it’s not too much. Other than the setting, nothing seems too insulting or out of place. The characters don’t speak in heavy accents, there are no surprise shots of tacos, and everyone seems the same as their PA bretheren (maybe too similar as there’s already a notable lack of personality if you’ve never seen a PA film). Latino culture is heavily religious and superstitious when it comes to santeria type magic, so it’s surprisingly welcome to the PA franchise if it’s executed properly. The additions make for a pretty damn good trailer (other than the last thirty seconds, where the atmosphere is completely ruined). This is the first Paranormal Activity trailer that’s interested me in a long time. But maybe this would’ve been much better if it were fully set in Mexico? What about you? Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones sambas into theaters next January.
