By I’m not quite sure what Kidnap is going for here. I mean, I guess I know what they’re going for. They want to make a revenge thriller for a low-budget that catches on like Taken did, but I’m not really sure they know how to do it… or if they’ve made a movie that’s longer than 20 minutes.
From the trailer it just looks like Halle Berry is a regular mom whose kid gets kidnapped, but she somehow manages to find the car that took him and follow it. Then, nothing much else. I mean, I’m sure there’s more to this, but I’m going to have to stretch my imagination pretty far to believe she’s capable of taking down a kidnapping ring in her van. Maybe that’s the twist they aren’t showing us. Whatever explanation there is isn’t in the trailer. That would be a shift, but it’s got me scratching my head over whether it’s worth finding out.
On a side note, is Halle Berry being typecast now as a desperate woman searching for someone? After The Call randomly turned out to be a hit maybe this is what she’s going to do now, once again drawing comparisons to Taken, which did much the same thing for Liam Neeson.
