Director Michael Cuesta’s (Elementary/Dexter) jump from television drama to full-fledged feature film looks to be a successful one in this first trailer for his new political crime thriller Kill the Messenger. Starring Jeremy Renner as news reporter Gary Webb, the film follows Webb’s discovery of drug and firearms dealings within the CIA; information that could destroy his life.
I highly enjoyed Renner’s performance in American Hustle, and, judging by this trailer, his portrayal of Webb looks equally promising. Considering I never bought Renner as much of an action star (The Bourne Legacy/The Avengers), it’s nice to see him take another role in a crime flick. I am excited to see where this film goes.
Kill the Messenger opens October 10th.
