Directed by David Wain (Wanderlust, Role Models), They Came Together is a comedic mixture of all of the romantic comedies that your one ex-girlfriend forced you to watch that one night when it happened to be on FX and you had just ordered Chinese food and there was nothing on Netflix. You know the ones — Along Came Polly, Love Actually, You’ve Got Mail, etc.
What sets this film apart from traditional farce movies is the way the lines are delivered. After watching the trailer, you’ll know what I mean.
The film is absolutely loaded with celebrities. In addition to Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd, this film also features (*takes a deep breath*) Colbie Smulders (Robin from How I Met Your Mother), Ellie Kemper (Erin from the US version of The Office), Adam Scott, Michael Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, John Stamos, Bill Hader, Max Greenfield, Ed Helms, Jack McBrayer, Kenan Thompson, Michael Ian Black, and one of my personal favorite musicians, Norah Jones.
Another upcoming Amy Poehler film to look forward to! Unlike The Nest, though, you won’t have to wait more than a year for this one. They Came Together will have a limited theatrical release on June 27th, and it’ll be available on demand through your various music rental sites. Huzzah!
