Flix for Short: Superstars Don’t Love

0

I’m kind of a sucker for great title cards and opening credits in films. Give me some Saul Bass or Maurice Binder at the beginning of your movie I’ll be a happy guy. This music video for the first verse of Buck 65’s “Superstars Don’t Love” is basically delicious font and design porn. All of the song lyrics appear on screen in the style of 69 movie title cards.

The video was created by Travis Hopkins, who talked about his process with Art of the Title:

I was listening to ‘Superstars Don’t Love’ by Buck 65 on my iPod and was immediately inspired by the flow of the lyrics. I’m a huge fan of movie title and poster design from the ’70s and ’80s and thought this would be the perfect match for a video.

Hopkins’s 140 hours of work includes homages to 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Royal Tenenbaums, Star Wars, True Grit, and much more. I think I spot Evil Dead I & II, The Searchers, They Live (by way of The Thing), Super Fly (or maybe Foxy Brown or Friday Foster), and a couple more. Feel free to list anything you spot in the comments.
