Umbra is an animated short film created by Malcolm Sutherland in 2010. The animation is a mix of drawing on paper and digital animation, and it creates a dreamy, stark, and rather minimalist landscape. The sound, also by Sutherland, seems reminiscent of a Teiji Ito soundtrack – all meditative and suspenseful.
I love the strange little story. What does the tiny guy see down there? Is it a tale of death and rebirth? Adventure or sacrifice? Maybe it’s about the quest for finding one’s true self, even if it’s in the darkest of shadows? I don’t know, I’m just kinda rambling here. Regardless, check it out!
