Back in December when we told you that legendary cult filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky is raising money for a new movie, I mentioned that his adaptation of Dune is one of the greatest movies never made. It would have starred Salvador Dali and Orson Welles, with music by Magma and Pink Floyd, and imagery inspired by concept art from H.R. Giger, Moebius, and Chris Foss.
Frank Pavich is currently completing Jodorowsky’s Dune, a documentary that chronicles this unmade movie. The above clip (an oldish teaser for the forthcoming film) gives a sense of Jodorowsky’s massive ambitions with the picture, complete with his usual flair for impassioned psychedelic spiritualism.
I’m intrigued to see the final documentary and hopefully get a sense of what this unmade movie would have been like. Given, it probably would have been box office poison with zero mass appeal, but it would have been such an odd and notable duck. According to IMDb, the doc will feature interviews with Jodorowsky (obviously), Foss, Giger, Nicolas Winding Refn, and others.
