Friendly reminder; Danny Trejo is a monkey in this Dora and the Lost City of Gold trailer

With extra fart jokes

It says a lot for my state of mind when I decide to call dibs on talking about the new Dora and the Lost City of Gold trailer as soon as it was released. Maybe it's because I have some sentimentality with the franchise since I remember watching it on Nickelodeon growing up, or maybe I'm just a masochistic fool. Both seem possible at this point. Regardless, we have a new trailer for the movie and it continues to show us that this is going to be something that probably should have been a made for TV movie.

Outside of reusing plenty of footage from the first trailer, we did learn a few new tidbits about the movie for the five people that care about it. This version of Dora, played by Isabela Moner, is the same Dora from the TV show, only grown up. We see a flashback to her as a kid doing the whole talking-to-the-audience routine that's bound to crack a few smirks from parents. Then we get the grand debut of Danny Trejo as Boots the Monkey. Just to reiterate, we live in the reality where Danny Trejo is playing a Spanish teaching monkey and I don't know whether to be happy or sad.

Now, after seeing the trailer, I'm sure we all have the same question; did Trejo make all of those sounds himself? I can just imagine Danny Trejo in full Machete regalia being told to make as many monkey noises as possible. When Trejo delivered said monkey squeals, the director realized that Trejo's monkey screams sound more like a full gorilla barreling down on its prey, eating them whole, and decided to ADR Trejo's lines. Or maybe Trejo will have one full line of dialogue in his grizzy, menacing timbre and cause every kid watching the movie to become terrified of a CG monkey wearing yellow boots. With Dora, I expect everything and nothing.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold releases August 9, 2019.
