The day of judgement is upon us. That live-action, Hollywood, white-washed Akira movie is moving forward. Garrett Hedlund has officially been approached by Warner Brothers to play the lead role of Kaneda. While admittedly, Hedlund’s previous works are diverse – including Tron: Legacy, Eragon, Georgia Rule and Friday Night Lights – I have to be honest and say that I think that this remake is totally not needed.
Personally, I hate the idea of white actors appearing in a seemingly direct adaption of a Japanese anime classic, though I will say that I would prefer Hedlund in the role rather than the once rumored Zac Efron. I think that this Akira remake should absolutely not be happening, but we’ll have to wait and see if it turns out to be the predicted train-wreck or not. My fingers are crossed that it’s not an absolute disgrace – really.
I mean, I would honestly rather see a humanimals remake of Akira than a white-people-Hollywood one. At least that would be innovative. What’s a humanimal, you ask!? Well, my fair child, just check out the video below…
