Even as a graduated art school student, I usually roll my eyes whenever I see more Star Wars memorabilia get released, but this is an intriguing project. Star Wars: Visions is an art book that creates a collection of Star Wars art as interpreted by today’s fine artists. Instead of dwelling on incredibly old art from the series’ past, we finally get a chance to see it recreated through the eyes of today’s big name artists. And please, spare me the Feng Zhu and Sparth art lectures, enough is enough!
Sure, I don’t see as many Magic: The Gathering card artists on the list as I’d like (for example: Jamie Jones), but Boris Vallejo and H. R. Giger are always welcomed names, even if they’re outdated. I’ll admit that the teaser images (seen in the gallery below) are pretty underwhelming, so I’ll wait to check this out in stores before deciding to buy it or not. It’s just a shame that they couldn’t get Frank Frazetta in on this project before he died earlier this year, because owning a reprint of his last artistic creation would be incredibly cool. If you're interested then the book just came out yesterday, and is actually pretty cheap on Amazon right now. However, the limited edition version that contains 50 bonus pages of art is currently listed at $400, which is laughable. You can get a taste of some of the included art by watching this preview video or browsing through the pics in the gallery below. Or, if you'd just like to click through tons of amazing art for free, I can't praise cgHub enough.
