Even though Mad Max: Fury Road has yet to start production, George Miller revealed that he’s got a new trilogy of vehicular mayhem in the works. In an interview/profile by the Australian Financial Review, Miller said, “We started with [Fury Road], but we then started to do a second story and a third. We’ve written the script for the second and almost finished the third. We never intended to, they were part of the exploration of the characters.” He also mentions in the profile that work is underway on a new Mad Max videogame based on Fury Road.
The fourth movie in the Mad Max series has faced a number of delays. The most recent one occurred in April of this year. Unexpected rainfall in the New South Wales outback caused wildflowers to grow in the usually dusty, desolate terrain. Production has been rescheduled for April 2012 in Namibia. Unless things have changed, Tom Hardy is still behind the wheel as Mad Max with Charlize Theron as co-star.
Miller’s creative partner Doug Mitchell mentions in the Financial Review piece that the film’s budget is absolutely crazy-go-nuts. “If it’s above $100 million it’s a big budget,” he said, adding, “This is a bigger budget. People have speculated around $200 million [which] I’d neither deny nor confirm. It’s a massive film.”
Miller also mentioned that he’s got another CGI family film planned on the heels of Happy Feet Two. This one is called Fur Brigade and will be about bears (aka forest penguins). Miller claims that it will be the most ambitious thing he’s ever done.
After the jump, I’ve included some video of the NES Mad Max game, which follows the story of The Road Warrior (kind of).
