The 2018 Academy Awards are less than a month away, which means I only have a few short weeks to knock out the remaining Best Picture films I’ve been meaning to see. More importantly, the hit film Get Out (nominated for four Acadamy Awards) is celebrating its one-year anniversary in style. Director Jordan Peele and AMC Theaters are teaming up to provide a free viewing of the film in over fifty locations across the country on February 19th. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis for a 7:00 pm showing at each location. You can find more information, including theater locations, by clicking here.
Peele’s first foray into the director’s chair has proven wildly successful, as Get Out earned nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actor for Daniel Kaluuya’s performance. It’s not often a film released in February is in legitimate contention for the Academy’s most coveted award, and a lot of that can be credited towards Peele’s excellent ability to put to script his perception of race in America.
For a deeper look into the film make sure to check out Alec’s review, and catch the 90th Academy Awards on March 4th.
