Sometimes, I stop to wonder why the Fast and Furious franchise keeps chugging along. What makes these movies so much fun for so many people? Hell, why do I like them?
Then I see news like this and I stop caring.
Stacker Pentecost Idris Elba has been tapped to play the villain in the upcoming Fast and Furious spinoff movie, Hobbs and Shaw. The spinoff stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in their respective roles as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw. David Leitch, director of Deadpool 2 (and stuntman in almost a hundred different movies) has been confirmed as well.
Hobbs and Shaw is currently in pre-production, and is scheduled to begin filming soon, but it just isn’t soon enough. I’ve loved the series transition in focus from Dominic Toretto to Hobbs. Fans have loved the character of Hobbs as well, and with the upcoming spinoff, his popularity is likely to grow even further. And my god, Idris Elba is such a suave actor. I can already tell he’s going to be perfect as a suave antagonist for our boys to fight.
Hobbs and Shaw is scheduled to hit theaters July 26th, 2019.
