Ghostbusters III is a go, Bill Murray is a no… maybe

Dan Aykroyd, aka Ray, confirmed on Dennis Miller Radio that Ghostbusters III is a GO! Shooting will likely begin in the Spring, though he couldn’t confirm or deny Bill Murray’s availability, saying simply, “yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray. That is our hope.” Since when does he call Bill Murray ‘Mr.’? Aren’t the two colleagues? Then again, this entire production has seen nothing but Bill Murray acting like it’s beneath him to even appear in this movie. He has badmouthed the tentative script as well as the very idea of another sequel to Ghostbusters. Bill was never a fan of the 2nd movie, so it’s not hard to imagine his abstaining from this project.

Although if you want to get my true gut feeling about this, it’s that they’re going to keep Bill’s involvement a secret up until people see it in theaters. It’s the best kind of misdirection; make the audience think one thing and then surprise them. From then on you’ll have their undying love… Wait a minute, this is just what I’m hoping will happen. Nevermind. I get my gut and my vagina mixed up sometimes.

Talking about the actual movie here, Dan Aykroyd also confirmed that his character, Ray “is now blind in one eye and can’t drive the Cadillac. He’s got a bad knee and can’t pick up the pack. Egon [Harold Ramis], is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that’s the promise. We’re gonna hand it to a new generation.” Perhaps some new blood is what this franchise needs now, because the old blood is, well, getting old.
