It was a big night for being pretty bored as the 2021 Golden Globe winners were announced. The event, which was done almost entirely virtually, with stars in gowns and tuxes (or hoodies in the case of Jason Sudekis) staring into Zoom cameras as they gushed about winning or awkwardly applauded others. It was a strange sight to see and without the drinking and talking amongst the tables lacked the special quality that makes the Golden Globes any fun. That’s not to mention the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press is embroiled in multiple issues about its membership and its complete lack of any black voters.
It was also kind of boring because most of the Golden Globes winners were expected. Nomadland won best drama, and it honestly was the best drama, but still heavily predicted to win. Borat Subsequent Movie Film winning best comedy might have come to a bit of surprise to anyone not paying attention but it is not only actually good but has been rising up the awards charts for months. Probably the biggest surprise of the night for categories people care about was Rasamun Pike winning for I Care A Lot. Her performance in the film was great but it was hardly a comedy and Maria Bakalova did a lot more lifting in Borat.
It was great to see Sudekis win for Ted Lasso simply because that show is so fantastic and he delivers the character with such incredible earnestly. Aside from that you can check out the full list of Golden Globes winners below.
