By If you don’t know who Grumpy Cat is, then clearly you aren’t on the internet enough. But I’ll briefly explain what it is. So there’s this cat, and it makes a rather silly face which makes it appear to be “grumpy.” That’s all, nothing else to the cat honestly. Knowing the internet however, this cat has turned into a celebrity and there have been numerous memes created using the face this cat makes.
Deadline has reported that Todd Garner and Sean Robbins of Broken Road Productions and the representatives of Grumpy Cat are in cahoots for a Grumpy Cat feature film. The film will probably be done in the style of the semi-recent Garfield films which means Grumpy Cat will be getting a voice and could be CGI/live action. Garner had this to say:
This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy. You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character.
If this is how Hollywood will be getting its newest ideas for feature films, I truly fear that the worst has yet to come. Because who truly wants to see more meme-based feature films? Now if they get Samuel L. Jackson to do the voice, wait no. I still won’t see this.
