Let’s start off by saying that this is in no way confirmed, but is a rumor that is thought to contain some nuggets of truth.
This rumor is stating that David Gordon Green has signed on to direct the next two Halloween sequels. Not only that but that the two sequels will be filming back to back. There was an earlier report that the sequel would start filming this fall, but if this rumor turns out to be true then filming would run quite a bit longer and we would be in for plenty of the Shape’s shenanigans moving forward.
The real exciting news here will be if David Gordon Green has actually signed back on since his vision for the characters was so successful. He has proven he can be trusted with the franchise so far, but Halloween sequels have always been a tricky beast. The thought that they would shoot them back to back gives the impression that they have a clear idea of where they want the story to go and have thought it through, unlike some of the previous sequels in the franchise.
The somewhat bizarre addition to this rumor is the idea that they would be releasing both of the sequels in the same month. October 2020 would be the landing spot for both of the proposed sequels. As much as I’d like to see a Halloween sequel sooner than later, that just seems like overkill. This is the part of the rumor that is the most curious and doesn’t fall in line with other possibilities that had been thrown around before now. Either way, we’ll hopefully get a better idea of what, if any, part of this rumor is true in the coming weeks.
