Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters pic turned me into a newt

After escaping the cannibalistic witch at the end of Hansel and Gretel, I assumed that our young heroes went on to purchase GPSs, undergo therapy, and live happily ever after (until the plague). Judging by this first image from Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, they aren’t quite over that incident at the candy house.

Due out on March 2nd, the film stars Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner as the two siblings 15 years after the fairy tale ended. According to Arterton in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the duo are tough orphans who’ve had to rely on each other growing up. She described the tone as “very, very dark, and bloodthirsty and there’s a lot of cursing. It’s kind of got a [Quentin] Tarantino feel, really.” The film likely opens with a discussion of what The Princess and the Pea is really about.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is directed by Tommy Wirkola, who also did the pretty enjoyable Nazi-zombie movie Dead Snow. No word on if Hansel and Gretel will also hunt down those bread-loving a**hole birds that got them lost in the first place, though we may find out when the trailer drops next week.
