Heads up Big Apple! Joker is coming to the NYFF

As is standard routine for the Joker, the Clown Prince of Crime kind of just goes wherever he wants and does whatever he wants. Most of the Joker’s best moments come from him just unexpectedly showing up and having a good time. Granted, his definition of a good time may be murder, sexual assault, crippling Barbara Gordon, or eating China (no really, he did that once), but an unexpected Joker appearance is always eventful to say the least.

Life imitates art it seems, as Todd Philips’ hotly anticipated Joker is going to get a special screening at the New York Film Festival. Previously unannounced for NYFF, the film will have an early screening for viewers ahead of its October 4 release. After the screening there will be a Q&A session with Philips, Joaquin Phoenix, and several members of the creative team.

Say what you will about DC’s earlier output in the DCEU, they’ve been on a roll over the past couple of films. Aquaman was pure, dumb action while Shazam! was a much bigger hit than most people anticipated and gave the character all of the praise that he deserved. Philips’ movie has been talked about in hushed whispers over the past several months and the anticipation leading up to it is driving me nuts. Whether it’s good or bad, Joker is almost certainly going to be a smash hit at the box office and be the topic of conversation for months after its release.

Joker releases October 4, 2019.
