Amazon released a trailer today for a mind-bending television series called Tales From the Loop. The show looks really cool and very effects heavy. Amazon sure isn’t skimping on the budget here.
It’s more of a teaser, than anything. All we really know is that someone is proving that impossible things are actually possible. There’s some beautiful imagery and music. We see glimpses of really interesting technology. This includes the world’s most adorable AT-ST Walker. We also see a house coming apart piece by piece and ascending to the sky. It’s unclear, but I get the impression that this will be more of an anthology type of show, something like Black Mirror (minus the horror elements). Perhaps each episode will be a separate “tale,” but they are all loosely connected.
Evidently, this show is based on a pen-and-paper tabletop RPG. That RPG is, in turn, inspired by the illustrations of a brilliant artist named Simon Stålenhag. Based on the sources of inspiration, this show could be going any direction imaginable. There isn’t a set story for the writers to follow. There’s just a setting and some sci-fi concepts.
Here is the official description of the show:
“Inspired by the wondrous paintings of Simon Stålenhag, Tales from the Loop explores the mind-bending adventures of the people who live above the Loop, a machine built to unlock and explore the mysteries of the universe – making things previously relegated to science fiction, possible.”
Tales from the Loop will stream exclusive on Amazon Prime starting April 3, 2020.
