Videogame films have been struggling for a bit. They’re not as bad as they used to be with studios putting in more effort than they used to, but they’ve yet to be taken seriously. So far Fox has been making the right moves with their take on the Assassin’s Creed franchise. A great cast (including the likes of Fassbender, Ariane Labed, Jeremy Irons and Marion Cotillard) an interesting director (Justin Kurzel from Macbeth) and the fact that it’s probably not a movie where Fassbender farts around collecting digital feathers and jumping into hay piles for two hours.
With its release next December, we’re going to get more glimpses at the film moving forward. This image of Entertainment Weekly teases the style of the film while a viral marketing campaign (with a website from fictional conglomerate Abstergo Industries and message from Jeremy Irons’ character) teases something for a March release. I’m guessing the first trailer. Also, there’s this bit floating around about how Fassbender never played the game before release but who cares about that. Actors sign up for films without prior knowledge all the time, so it’s non news. At least he’s played the game a bit after joining. That’s more research than a lot of actors do.
Assassin’s Creed releases December 21st next year.
